About Us

The Wagon offers experience, advice, humor, and resources on all things related to addiction and recovery — whether you’re worried about your drinking or drug use, in active addiction, sober, California sober, or simply looking for people who can relate. No matter the circumstances, we’ve learned that no one is unique when it comes to addiction — and that’s a good thing.

If you feel isolated, alone, or misunderstood in your experience right now, we promise you are not. Millions of people understand what you are going through, including the two women who created this space.

We are Susan and Laura — two women who met in recovery and quickly formed a friendship based on our shared experiences. Many of our conversations were punctuated by “me too!” and “SAME” and “I can so relate.”

We both wished there were more places online offering unfiltered, first-hand accounts of the addiction and recovery experience. We wanted stories that more authentically spoke about the struggle, the shame, and the insidious way this disease tells you that you are worthless — in your own voice.

We are not medical doctors or licensed addiction specialists, but we are experts in our own experience — we suffered from addiction and spent years beating ourselves up for it. We were lucky to make it into recovery and are doing everything we can to stay here, including sharing what we went through. Our goal is to provide what we thought the internet was missing — a place where you can relate, feel less alone, and let go of the shame. And maybe get inspired to start your own recovery journey, whatever that may look like.

So whether you’re on the wagon, off the wagon, or somewhere in between, we invite you to join us for the ride.

NOTE: While we offer our genuine stories and insights, we are not equipped to provide medical advice. Each person’s journey is unique, and what worked for us might not be suitable for everyone. We encourage you to seek guidance from qualified healthcare professionals who can offer personalized support tailored to your specific needs. Please see our Recovery Resources page for suggestions.
